This project all started with a phone call between chet and chas discussing creating raf art on a bike wheel together. Chet is a full time artist based in Portland. When he is not working on a mural or putzing around in the studio, He enjoys the endless outdoor activities the PNW has to offer. Chas is a bike racer and adventurer from Oakland CA who loves to travel and create art.

The 90’s produced some incredibly fast and weird carbon wheels.  Both Chas and Chet loved the ZIPP, HED, and SPIN trispoke racing wheels.  So when Deluxe Cycles offered to donate one of their 3 spoke carbon wheels both jumped at the chance.

Chas works with oil based paint pens, and Chet paints with One Shot enamel.  While their styles are different,  each chose side of the wheel to make their own, but still left a little space for the others art to bleed  over.

Chas raced at SBTGRVL 2021and attended the Ride for Racial Justice forum and group ride before the race.  Seeing the impactful work they are doing, talking to the organizers and racers, it was an obvious choice to donate the proceeds from the wheel to them.

Ride for Racial Justice is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and exists to ensure access to resources, education, and community for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) cyclists and to dismantle systemic racism so that EVERYONE can feel safe, free, and empowered to ride a bicycle.
